Back in 2017, the Democratic National Committee's lawyers submitted a legal brief that didn't just say the quiet part out loud; they bellowed it: "[The DNC can] go into back rooms like they used to and smoke cigars and pick the [presidential] candidate that way": (more)

The wedding is the latest in a chain of BART (Mass Transit) interventions thrown by a loosely organized group of East Bay artists and activists united under the tongue-in-cheek moniker of the Passenger Liberation Front. The happenings belong to the same art-as-activism family as ReclaimTheStreets, which stops traffic for street parties, or the Situationists, a group of 1960s artists and activists who sought to alter people's perceptions of the modern city. The NycClubKids, who held dance parties in subways and fast-food chains in the late 1980s, may also have inspired a prior Passenger Liberation Front event, an '80s dance party held in March. Reminds me of 2004-09-03-ThackaraStreetPerformance.
The Situationist International (SI) was an international organization of social activists made up of avant-garde artists, intellectuals, and political theorists, prominent in Europe from its formation in 1957 to its dissolution in 1972.[1] The intellectual foundations of the Situationist International were derived primarily from anti-authoritarian Marxism and the avant-garde art movements of the early 20th century, particularly DaDa and Surrealism.[1] Overall, situationist theory represented an attempt to synthesize this diverse field of theoretical disciplines into a modern and comprehensive critique of mid-20th century advanced Capitalism. Essential to situationist theory was the concept of the Spectacle, a unified critique of advanced capitalism of which a primary concern was the progressively increasing tendency towards the expression and mediation of social relations through objects.[1] The situationists believed that the shift from individual expression through directly lived experiences, or the first-hand fulfillment of authentic desires, to individual expression by proxy through the exchange or consumption of commodities, or passive second-hand alienation, inflicted significant and far-reaching damage to the quality of human life for both individuals and society.[1] Another important concept of situationist theory was the primary means of counteracting the spectacle; the construction of situations, moments of life deliberately constructed for the purpose of reawakening and pursuing authentic desires, experiencing the feeling of life and adventure, and the liberation of everyday life. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Situationist_International (more)

Chaos Magick had its inception in the late 1970s when Pete Carroll began to meld together elements of Golden Dawn ceremonial magick, Thelema, Taoism and Tibetan Buddhism in his articles for the magickal journal, The New Equinox. The inspiration for this synthesis was the work of the obscure, early twentieth-century artist and sorcerer Austin Osman Spare. Spare had developed what he called the technique of SentientLetters. Pete Carroll reformed the technique, and the sentient letters were recast as 'sigils'; they became the basis of a system which aimed to generate results through the application of undogmatic magickal technique. http://www.barbelith.com/cgi-bin/articles/00000004.shtml (more)

‘Bezzle’ was coined by JK Galbraith to describe the blissful and often long moment when an embezzlement has occurred but before it’s been discovered. The embezzler has his money. The victim still thinks he has his. It’s the gravity-defying interval when Wile E. Coyote is running on air and hasn’t begun to fall. Adopted by Cory Doctorow for a fiction book title. cf Con-Game (more)
